Visiting Rome can be a delightful experience with much of its top attractions located in thecity center that can be explored on foot. However, to reach places like Vatican City, one will have to rely on public transportation run by ATAC, which includes buses, trams, metro, and a suburban train network. The main hub for this is Stazione Termini, and tickets are valid for all forms of transport. For a quicker mode of transportation, take the metro (lines A and B) but keep in mind its network is limited. For longer destinations, consider taking the bus (n1 follows line A, n2 follows line B) or the tram (useful lines are 2, 3, 8, and 19). Note that cycling in the city center may not be ideal due to hills and traffic, but bikes are a great choice for exploring the parks. Bikes can be carried on certain specified bus and tram routes and on the metro (limited times and stations) and trains (with a separate ticket). Our tip for those who want to save some cash is use Uber or our transportation search engine! Also you can cruise around Rome like a boss with your own set of wheels.
